Explore the Ara Pacis and Mausoleum of Augustus on a private Rome tour filled with imperial art, history, and stories of the city’s first emperor.

About this tour

Step into the story of Rome’s first emperor on a private guided visit to two landmarks shaped by Augustus: the Ara Pacis and the Mausoleum of Augustus. Over 150 minutes, your guide brings the city’s imperial past into focus through art, architecture, and the monuments’ changing roles.

Begin at the Ara Pacis, where detailed marble reliefs reveal Roman mythology, ritual, and the political vision behind Augustus’s celebrated era of peace. Then walk to the nearby Mausoleum of Augustus, a vast circular tomb built by the emperor himself. Hear about its architectural innovations, its history as a royal burial site, and its decline and restoration. The private format offers an intimate way to explore the details and ask questions along the way.

Your tour includes entrance fees and a private licensed official guide. Meet in front of Fendi; public transportation options are available nearby. If the Mausoleum of Augustus is closed on your selected date, an alternative will be offered. How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 1 review. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1. Top 48% in Rome means it ranks in the top 48% of tours in Rome by this score.
