Explore Assisi’s basilicas and Orvieto’s ornate cathedral on a 10-hour day trip from Rome, with hotel pickup and minivan transfers.

About this tour

Leave Rome behind for a day among Umbria’s hill towns, vineyards, and olive groves. This Rome Assisi and Orvieto day tour begins with hotel pickup and an air-conditioned minivan transfer to Assisi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site set on the green slopes of Mount Subasio.

Walk through the town’s narrow lanes, stone streets, and flower-lined balconies before visiting the Basilica of San Francesco. A professional guide leads a two-hour visit, with headsets provided, and you can admire early Renaissance works by Giotto and Cimabue. The itinerary also includes Santa Maria degli Angeli. Lunch at a typical restaurant is optional and at your own expense.

Continue to Orvieto to visit its cathedral, celebrated for a Gothic façade adorned with stained glass, mosaics, and sculptures. Take time to explore the city center before returning to Rome. With key church admissions and transfers arranged, this Rome Assisi and Orvieto day tour makes it easy to experience two distinctive Umbrian towns in one outing. Share your correct hotel details and confirm pickup the day before, then set out for a memorable day in the region.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.85 from 117 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.5. Top 23% in Rome means it ranks in the top 23% of tours in Rome by this score.
