Explore Assisi’s sacred art and Orvieto’s medieval streets on a private full-day journey from Rome through the heart of Umbria.

About this tour

Leave Rome behind for a full-day journey through Umbria, where hilltop towns rise above vineyards and olive groves. This private Rome Assisi and Orvieto tour pairs the art and spiritual heritage of Assisi with the dramatic setting of Orvieto.

In Assisi, wander stone lanes and colorful streets, visit the Basilica of St. Francis, and admire works by Giotto and Cimabue. The itinerary also features the Porziuncola at Santa Maria degli Angeli, the tomb of Santa Chiara, and the resting place of Carlo Acutis. A two-hour official guided tour in Assisi brings added context to the town’s history. Then continue to Orvieto, perched on volcanic rock, to see its Gothic cathedral and explore medieval streets shaped by Etruscan history. Lunch is not included.

With an air-conditioned minivan transfer, a tour assistant throughout the trip, and hotel pickup and drop-off in central Rome, the Rome Assisi and Orvieto tour makes it easy to experience two distinctive Umbrian towns in one day. Reserve your place for a day of art, history, and memorable hilltop views.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.97 from 29 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 8.0. Top 12% in Rome means it ranks in the top 12% of tours in Rome by this score.
