Explore the Baths of Caracalla with a private art historian guide and uncover how Romans bathed, exercised, read, and worshipped.

About this tour

Step into the remains of one of ancient Rome’s most impressive public spaces on a private visit to the Baths of Caracalla. This 90-minute Rome Baths of Caracalla walking tour pairs striking brick walls and collapsed vaults with the stories of the people who once filled the complex.

Meet your professional art historian guide and explore the broad precinct, where Romans came not only to bathe but also to exercise, visit the library, stroll through gardens, and worship in temples dedicated to Mithras and other pagan gods. Though much of the original structure has disappeared, the surviving archaeological remains still hint at the scale and ambition of the baths, built in 212 A.D. Your guide brings the site’s architecture and daily life into focus, making the experience engaging for couples, friends, and families.

With a private guide, you can concentrate on the details that make this ancient landmark memorable. Discover the Baths of Caracalla and see a vivid side of Roman life on this Rome Baths of Caracalla tour.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.33 from 3 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.9.
