Explore the Catacombs of San Callisto, the Appian Way, and historic sites on a private Rome tour with hotel pickup and drop-off.
About this tour
Travel from Rome’s ancient streets into the quiet depths of the Catacombs of San Callisto on a private tour with convenient hotel pickup and drop-off. Along the way, discover landmarks tied to the city’s early history and the Roman Empire.
See Porta San Sebastiano, a historic gate in the Aurelian Walls, then explore the catacombs on a guided group tour. The underground passageways served as burial places for popes and martyrs more than 1,800 years ago. Continue along the Appian Way, one of the oldest and most important roads of the Roman Empire, and stop at the Church of Domine Quo Vadis. Tradition places Saint Peter’s encounter with Christ here, and the church is associated with legendary footprints.
Private, air-conditioned transportation connects the stops, while an English-speaking driver and included tickets help make the outing straightforward. Discover Rome’s layered past on this Rome Catacombs and Ancient Appian Way tour.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.43 from 128 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 5.1.
