Explore Rome’s ancient catacombs with a guide, then travel in comfort by luxury vehicle on this 120-minute underground history tour.

About this tour

Escape the Roman heat and step into the quiet, winding passages beneath the city on this Rome Catacombs Tour. At the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, an expert guide leads you through an underground cemetery associated with early Christians, including martyrs and 16 popes. Ancient frescoes and inscriptions offer glimpses into centuries of faith and burial traditions.

Travel to the site in a luxury vehicle with an English-speaking driver, then join a shared guided visit through the catacombs. The tour lasts 120 minutes. Visits are scheduled at St. Callixtus; on Wednesdays or during extraordinary closures, the route switches to the Catacombs of St. Sebastian. Meet outside the Basilica di Santi Cosma e Damiano at least 15 minutes before departure, and keep your phone available in case the meeting time changes.

Discover a remarkable chapter of Rome’s history below ground on this Rome Catacombs Tour, where atmospheric tunnels and early Christian art bring the past into view. Book your visit and explore the city’s ancient mysteries with a guide.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 3.00 from 2 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.9.
