Explore the Colosseum’s arena and underground chambers with a local archaeologist, then discover the Roman Forum and Palatine with your guide.

About this tour

Step into the ancient world on a Rome Colosseum Tour with access to the arena and underground chambers. Over approximately three hours, explore the Colosseum’s first and second levels, then stand on the arena floor where gladiators once fought. A local Colosseum archaeologist leads the underground chambers visit, revealing the spaces where wild animals were kept. Continue through the Roman Forum and Palatine to see some of Rome’s most important archaeological sites with your guide. The order of visits may vary, and the tour may begin in Ancient Rome or at the Colosseum. Underground access depends on ticket availability; if tickets cannot be secured, an alternative tour or cancellation with a refund may be offered. Meet at the lower-level exit of Colosseo Metro station, near the newsstand. Bring valid photo ID and provide every traveler’s full name for the nominative tickets. Choose this Rome Colosseum Tour to experience the arena, hidden chambers, and ancient ruins in one guided visit.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.73 from 190 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.5.
