Hear Rome’s stories of gladiators, popes, and scandals on a relaxed small-group walk near the Colosseum with a local guide.

About this tour

See Rome through the stories that shaped it, from gladiators and popes to ambition, desire, and scandal. This three-hour small-group walking tour offers more than a list of dates: a local guide connects the city’s past to its present, revealing why Rome looks the way it does and why its history still matters.

Meet near the Colosseum, with the exact location shared after booking, then explore exterior sites as your guide brings their stories to life. The relaxed pace leaves room for questions and photos, while the small-group setting makes the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Entrance tickets, food, and drinks are not included; the focus is on the city’s outdoor landmarks and engaging storytelling.

Ideal as an introduction to Rome, the tour also offers insider tips for the rest of your stay. Let Rome Gladiators, Popes and Scandals Walking Tour give you the context to see the city with fresh eyes and make your next discoveries even more meaningful.

How this score is calculated

This tour has no TourTruth score yet: Viator doesn't show a usable rating for it. It gets a score as soon as a provider lists one.

How the score works
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10. Tours without a usable provider rating are not scored.
