About this tour

Leave Rome behind for a full-day journey into the ancient cities buried by Mount Vesuvius. This private Rome Pompeii and Herculaneum tour pairs skip-the-line entry with comfortable transport and a flavorful stop on the volcano’s slopes.

Explore the archaeological parks of Pompeii and Herculaneum, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Your driver offers general commentary during the ride; if you select the guide option, a licensed professional guide leads a 2-hour visit at each site. Between discoveries, enjoy lunch and a wine tasting at a restaurant on the slopes of Vesuvius, along with a buffalo mozzarella tasting. Guests under 18 can choose soft drinks instead of wine.

Private hotel pickup and drop-off in Rome make the day straightforward, and the air-conditioned vehicle keeps the long drive comfortable. How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 1 review. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1. Top 48% in Rome means it ranks in the top 48% of tours in Rome by this score.
