Travel from Rome to hike Vesuvius’s Gran Cono trail, savor a local lunch, and explore Pompeii with a certified archaeological guide.

About this tour

Travel from Rome to the Bay of Naples for a day among ancient streets and volcanic landscapes. This 12-hour Rome Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius day trip pairs a guided visit to Pompeii with a hike on Vesuvius’s Gran Cono trail.

Ride in a Mercedes vehicle with a professional driver, then follow a certified volcanic guide toward the crater rim and take in views across the bay. Pause for a three-course lunch at a local restaurant before exploring Pompeii with a certified archaeological guide. Skip-the-line tickets provide access to Pompeii Archaeological Park.

The itinerary may run in reverse, and weather or site closures can prompt adjustments. From November through February, Vesuvius may be closed; in that case, free time in Positano is offered instead. Share dietary needs when booking and bring participant names required for Vesuvius access. Choose this Rome Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius day trip for a full day of history, scenery, and local food.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 3 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.3. Top 35% in Rome means it ranks in the top 35% of tours in Rome by this score.
