Explore Pompeii with an official guide, enjoy Neapolitan pizza, and take in Bay of Naples views on a full-day trip from Rome.

About this tour

Travel from Rome to the ancient streets of Pompeii and the sweeping Bay of Naples on a full-day excursion in an air-conditioned minivan, with a tour assistant along for the journey. A small group of up to 6 or 7 people keeps the ride intimate, while a stop along the highway offers time for a mid-morning snack.

In Pompeii, skip the ticket line and explore with an official guide for two hours. See the Macellum, the city’s food market, the thermal baths, gathering places, and the homes of wealthy residents as you learn about daily life in the Roman city. Then sit down for pizza at a typical Neapolitan restaurant before spending two hours in Naples. Take in views of the bay and its striking gulf, with time to enjoy the city’s atmosphere.

With central Rome hotel, apartment, or B&B pickup and drop-off, this Rome Pompeii and Naples tour makes a long day of discovery easier to enjoy. Confirm your pickup the day before, then set out to experience the history and scenery of southern Italy.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.88 from 24 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.4. Top 28% in Rome means it ranks in the top 28% of tours in Rome by this score.
