Explore Pompeii’s ancient ruins and enjoy free time in Positano on a private day trip from Rome with coastal views along the way.

About this tour

Trade Rome’s busy streets for ancient ruins and Mediterranean scenery on a private day trip to Pompeii and Positano. With hotel pickup and a private, air-conditioned vehicle, this 11-hour journey pairs a glimpse into Roman life with time to enjoy the Amalfi Coast.

Explore Pompeii independently or with a professional guide if you select that option. Walk among the remains of a city preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius nearly 2,000 years ago, then continue toward Positano for sweeping sea views and free time to explore its postcard-worthy streets. A flexible itinerary lets you experience both destinations at your own pace, though traffic may affect the time available at each stop.

Your English-speaking driver handles the journey, while the private setup keeps the day focused on your party. Pompeii admission and lunch are not included, so plan to pay for those separately. Choose this Rome Pompeii and Positano day trip for a memorable mix of history, coastal views, and independent exploring.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.72 from 75 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.6.
