Travel privately from Rome to hike Mount Vesuvius and explore Pompeii with skip-the-line entry on a full-day trip.

About this tour

Leave Rome behind for a private day among the dramatic landscapes and ancient history of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. A full-day chauffeur takes you from Rome to the volcano, where you’ll have time to hike toward the summit and peer into the crater. Then head to Pompeii, where skip-the-line tickets make it easier to begin exploring the remarkably preserved archaeological site. The itinerary also includes free time for lunch, though lunch and a tour guide are not included. Pompeii is an active excavation site, so some landmarks may be closed while archaeologists continue their work. If weather or similar conditions prevent access to Mount Vesuvius, your driver will offer an alternative activity. With private transportation and time to experience both the volcano and the ruins, this Rome Pompeii and Vesuvius day trip brings two iconic destinations into one outing. Choose this Rome Pompeii and Vesuvius day trip for a memorable change of pace from the capital.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 7 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.5. Top 24% in Rome means it ranks in the top 24% of tours in Rome by this score.
