Explore Pompeii with a local guide, then walk around Vesuvius’s crater with a geology expert on an 8-hour trip from Rome.

About this tour

Discover the ancient streets of Pompeii and the dramatic crater of Vesuvius on a full-day journey from Rome. With private transport and a local guide, this Rome Pompeii and Vesuvius tour pairs archaeological history with a walk across volcanic terrain.

Your driver picks you up at your address and takes you to Pompeii, where a guide leads you through key parts of the site, including its theaters, Lupanar, and Forum. After exploring the ruins, continue to the slopes of Vesuvius. There, join a group walk to the crater led by a geology expert. National Park fees and skip-the-line access at Pompeii are included, and transport is by air-conditioned minivan or private vehicle.

Vesuvius access is weather-dependent. If heavy rain closes the volcano, your driver will suggest an alternative itinerary. Food, drinks, lunch, and gratuities are not included. How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 2 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.2. Top 40% in Rome means it ranks in the top 40% of tours in Rome by this score.
