Travel from Rome through historic countryside to explore Pompeii’s preserved ruins with a private official guide.

About this tour

Leave Rome behind for a private day trip to Pompeii, traveling through the historic countryside of Lazio and Campania. Along the way, pass the Apennine Mountains and the Cassino monastery, then look toward Mount Vesuvius, the volcano linked to Pompeii’s destruction in 79 AD.

At the archaeological site, explore the ancient city with a private official guide and discover streets and remains that offer a vivid glimpse of Roman life. Pompeii was once home to wealthy Romans and merchants; its preservation makes the city an extraordinary place to understand the past. Private transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle, Pompeii tickets, and bottled water are included. An English-speaking driver picks you up at your accommodation in Rome for the journey.

Choose this Rome Pompeii private day trip for a comfortable ride and guided time among the ruins. See the landscape that shaped the region, then experience Pompeii up close with an official guide.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 2 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.2. Top 40% in Rome means it ranks in the top 40% of tours in Rome by this score.
