Travel from Rome to Pompeii by private car, explore with an official guide, then enjoy three hours to discover the ruins at your own pace.

About this tour

Leave Rome behind for a private day exploring Pompeii, the ancient city preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Your driver picks you up at your accommodation within Rome’s Aurelian Walls and takes you to the archaeological site in a private, air-conditioned vehicle with Wi-Fi.

At Pompeii, an official guide leads a 2-hour tour through the ruins, bringing the city’s remarkable history into focus. Then take 3 hours to explore independently at your own pace before meeting your driver for the return journey to Rome. Entrance fees are included, while lunch and gratuities are not.

This Rome Pompeii private tour pairs guided insight with plenty of time to wander among the remains of a Roman city. Share your exact pickup address and confirm the pickup time with the agency 24 hours ahead. Set out for Pompeii and experience its extraordinary past firsthand.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 1 review. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1. Top 48% in Rome means it ranks in the top 48% of tours in Rome by this score.
