Explore the Vatican Museums early with a private guide, then admire Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and the frescoes of the Raphael Rooms.

About this tour

See the Vatican before the day’s crowds gather on a private Rome Sistine Chapel and Raphael Rooms tour. This two-hour early morning visit pairs an expert local guide with time to take in some of the Vatican Museums’ most celebrated art.

Explore the galleries, then enter the Sistine Chapel to admire Michelangelo’s masterpiece. Talking and photography are prohibited inside, so your guide shares commentary before you enter. Continue to the Raphael Rooms, where frescoes reward a closer look and a private setting makes it easy to ask questions. Afterward, your guide can point you toward the museum galleries to enjoy for the rest of your visit.

The Vatican may delay access to the Sistine Chapel for religious reasons; if that happens, the itinerary changes and your museum visit is extended. From January 12 through March 31, conservation scaffolding covers the Last Judgment wall, though the chapel remains open. Meet across from the museum entrance, bring government-issued ID for every guest, and discover the Vatican’s art with a knowledgeable guide at your side.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.89 from 45 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.6. Top 20% in Rome means it ranks in the top 20% of tours in Rome by this score.
