About this tour

Explore St. Peter’s Basilica on a guided tour that brings its monumental architecture, celebrated art, and rich symbolism into focus. With priority access, spend less time waiting and more time taking in one of Rome’s most remarkable landmarks.

Your guide leads you through the basilica, sharing the stories behind Michelangelo’s Pietà and Bernini’s ornate bronze Baldacchino above the high altar. An audio system helps you follow along as you discover the history and details of this extraordinary space. Choose the dome option for access by elevator to the terrace, then continue up 320 steps through narrow passageways to the summit. The climb rewards you with sweeping views over Rome and a close look at the dome’s architecture.

This 180-minute St. Peter’s Basilica guided tour offers a memorable way to experience the church and its art. The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are not included. Choose your preferred option and see St. Peter’s Basilica from the ground up, with the dome climb available for an even broader view of the city.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 4 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.3. Top 31% in Rome means it ranks in the top 31% of tours in Rome by this score.
