Explore quieter Vatican Museum galleries, ancient sculptures, paintings, and Popemobiles on a private, skip-the-line tour with an art historian.

About this tour

Step beyond the usual Vatican crowds and discover museum rooms many visitors miss. On this private Rome Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel Tour, a knowledgeable professional art historian guide leads you through lesser-known collections and shares the stories behind the art and history. Explore the Pinacoteca, where paintings fill elegant galleries, then see ancient Greek and Roman sculptures in the New Wing. At the Carriage Pavilion, encounter historic vehicles, including Popemobiles. Skip-the-line access helps you spend less time waiting and more time looking closely, while hotel pickup adds convenience. The tour lasts 180 minutes and meets at the Vatican Museums entrance on Viale Vaticano. Access to the Sistine Chapel or St. Peter’s Basilica can change at short notice if areas close for Vatican events; if that happens, your guide will provide an alternative itinerary within the museums. Dress modestly, with knees and shoulders covered. Choose this Rome Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel Tour for a more focused look at the collections, guided by an art historian who can bring their details to life.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 2 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.2. Top 40% in Rome means it ranks in the top 40% of tours in Rome by this score.
