Explore the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel on a private evening tour with a guide and one-way pickup from your Rome accommodation.

About this tour

Discover the Vatican after dark on a Rome Vatican Museums evening private tour, with a driver collecting you from your accommodation for a one-way ride to the museums. With a professional art historian or archaeologist as your guide, explore the galleries, courtyards and papal rooms at your own pace, following an itinerary that can be customized.

Take in works by leading Renaissance artists and visit the apartment of Pope Julius II, painted by Raphael. The journey culminates in the Sistine Chapel, where artificial lighting illuminates its celebrated art and brings out details across the ceiling. Along the way, enjoy views of St. Peter’s dome from the terrace at the entrance. The 150-minute experience includes ticket fees, skip-the-line access and a Sistine Chapel brochure; parties of six or more receive radios and earpieces. A valid ID is required for every participant, and visitors must follow the dress code covering knees and shoulders.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 7 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.5. Top 24% in Rome means it ranks in the top 24% of tours in Rome by this score.
