Explore the Vatican Museums, Raphael Rooms, and Sistine Chapel with an art historian on a private tour with skip-the-line access.

About this tour

Spend a day among the Vatican’s masterpieces on a private Vatican City museum and Sistine Chapel tour led by a professional art historian. With guaranteed skip-the-line access and private transportation, you can focus on the art and stories rather than the long entrance lines.

Explore the Vatican Museums, passing through the Gallery of Maps, Gallery of Tapestries, and Gallery of the Candelabra. See celebrated sculptures, including Laocoön and His Sons, then take in the Raphael Rooms, a standout collection of Renaissance art. Your guide will explain Michelangelo’s famous frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, leaving you time to appreciate the chapel’s intricate details. This six-hour itinerary brings together iconic sights and lesser-known works for a richer perspective on the Vatican.

St. Peter’s Basilica may occasionally be inaccessible during the tour, and museum areas can close without notice. If a closure affects the itinerary, your guide will offer an alternative focused on the Vatican Museums; refunds and rescheduling are not available for these closures. Dress modestly, with knees and shoulders covered, and book this Vatican City museum and Sistine Chapel tour for an art-filled day with expert insight.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.75 from 4 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.0.
