Explore the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel with a private historian guide, pre-booked admission, and stories behind the masterpieces.

About this tour

Explore the Vatican’s celebrated art and sacred spaces on a three-hour private tour led by a local historian. With admission tickets included and pre-booked entry, you can spend less time waiting at the ticket line and more time taking in the collections.

Meet your guide outside the Vatican Museums, then discover the museums’ masterpieces and the Sistine Chapel while hearing the stories behind these remarkable places. The tour also plans to visit St. Peter’s Basilica, though access may change: Jubilee arrangements or papal events can close areas at short notice. If the Basilica is unavailable, your guide may offer an alternative focused on the Vatican Museums. Remember to cover your knees and shoulders for entry to places of worship and selected museums.

Choose this Vatican City private Vatican and Sistine Chapel tour for a more personal way to encounter the city’s artistic and religious landmarks. Book your visit and see the Vatican through the insight of a historian guide.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 5 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.4. Top 28% in Rome means it ranks in the top 28% of tours in Rome by this score.
