About this tour

Discover the Vatican’s celebrated art and architecture on a three-hour Vatican City Sistine Chapel and Basilica Tour, with an English-speaking guide and an average group size of 10. Follow a route through the Vatican Museums, where galleries reveal papal carriages, tapestries, maps, and paintings before you reach the Sistine Chapel and its renowned frescoes. Photography is not permitted inside the chapel, so take in the details while you are there.

The visit continues to St. Peter’s Basilica, reached by way of the Scala Regia and ending in front of the Basilica. You can remain inside afterward, though re-entry to the museums and Sistine Chapel is not possible. Earphones are provided for groups of six or more, helping you follow the guide’s commentary along the way. Basilica access can change because of closures or ticket availability, and Wednesday mornings have a later opening due to the Papal Audience.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.83 from 204 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.3. Top 31% in Rome means it ranks in the top 31% of tours in Rome by this score.
