Explore the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica with a private guide on a 3.5-hour art-filled tour.

About this tour

Explore the Vatican Museums on a private tour that brings centuries of art and history into focus. With an experienced guide and a relaxed pace, make your way through the vast collection, from the Laocoön and Apollo Belvedere to the Gallery of Tapestries and Gallery of Maps. The route leads to the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo’s celebrated frescoes fill the ceiling and walls.

Your Vatican Museums private tour includes museum admission and fast entrance to St. Peter’s Basilica, where access is available. Inside the basilica, see Michelangelo’s Pietà and Bernini’s canopy beneath the soaring dome. During the Holy Jubilee Year, entry to the basilica cannot be guaranteed; if access is unavailable, your visit will continue in the museums. A different wheelchair itinerary visits special museum rooms and the Sistine Chapel but does not include St. Peter’s Basilica.

Meet your guide outside Caffè Vaticano on Viale Vaticano, then settle in for 3.5 hours of art, architecture, and expert insight. Book this Vatican Museums private tour for a more personal way to experience the Vatican’s essential sights.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.89 from 74 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.8. Top 16% in Rome means it ranks in the top 16% of tours in Rome by this score.
