Attend the Papal Audience with a licensed guide, then explore the exterior of St. Peter’s Basilica and its history.

About this tour

Join the Papal Audience in Vatican City and hear Pope Francis deliver his message in St. Peter’s Square or Sala Nervi, depending on the schedule. This 5-hour guided experience offers context for the occasion and a closer look at the setting’s history and traditions.

Meet your licensed guide at 7:00 AM at Piazza Risorgimento, in front of Foot Locker. Attend the audience, then explore the exterior of St. Peter’s Basilica as your guide explains its significance in Christian history. Entry to the basilica may be possible after 2:00 PM, subject to ticket availability. Security checks are required for both the audience and basilica entry, so queues may occur. In summer, when the audience is held in St. Peter’s Square, bring a hat and a small bottle of water. The Vatican manages the audience’s internal organization, and last-minute changes may occur.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.58 from 12 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.7.
