Skip the long lines on a private Vatican tour with an art historian, exploring the museums and hearing the stories behind the Sistine Chapel.

About this tour

Explore the Vatican with a private guide on a three-hour tour that brings its art and history into focus. With guaranteed skip-the-line access, spend less time waiting and more time taking in the remarkable collections and atmosphere of the Vatican Museums.

Your local art historian guides you through the museums, sharing the stories, facts, and curiosities behind these celebrated spaces. The visit also includes the Sistine Chapel, where you can admire its renowned art while hearing about its history. St. Peter’s Basilica may be part of the experience, but access can change at short notice because of events or Jubilee arrangements. If a site is closed, your guide will provide an alternative inside the Vatican Museums; during the Jubilee, you may be able to visit the Basilica afterward by joining the queue.

Meet your guide at the Vatican Museums entrance and discover the Vatican at a thoughtful pace. Book this Vatican private tour for an art-rich visit shaped around expert insight and fewer waits.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.76 from 21 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.9.
