Explore Tucson’s night sky with a guide, binoculars, and telescope viewing at Kitt Peak National Observatory.
About this tour
Discover the night sky from Kitt Peak National Observatory, nearly 7,000 feet above the Arizona desert. This 4.5-hour Tucson night sky observing program pairs expert guidance with views through powerful binoculars and a professional telescope.
Start at the Visitor Center, where astronomy exhibits introduce the observatory and the science behind the stars. After a light meal, a guide helps you identify constellations and navigate the night sky. Then head outdoors to scan celestial objects with high-powered binoculars before entering an observatory dome for a telescope viewing session. The program runs nightly, year-round, and includes elevator access to the observatory level.
Dress for the high elevation with warm clothes, pants, a jacket, and closed-toe shoes; expect walking, standing, and stairs. A light sandwich is provided, with turkey, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options listed. The kitchen cannot guarantee allergen-free meals. Bring a passport or ID card for the Border Patrol checkpoint on Arizona State Route 86. Make an evening of stargazing and experience Tucson’s remarkable desert skies at Kitt Peak.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. GetYourGuide rates it 4.51 from 2 reviews. We place that rating among all GetYourGuide ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Tucson
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.0.
