Walk Chesapeake Beach’s historic railway trail, explore Fishing Creek marshland, and discover local history on this 90-minute guided tour.

About this tour

Follow the old railway trail through Chesapeake Beach and trace the route that once carried visitors from Washington, D.C., and Baltimore to the shore. This 90-minute Chesapeake Beach guided walking tour pairs local history with quiet Bay scenery.

Walk through marshland beside Fishing Creek, where the Chesapeake Bay habitat offers plenty of photo opportunities. Along the way, visit the site honoring Chesapeake Beach war heroes, then step inside the Chesapeake Railway Museum to learn about early 20th-century life and why people traveled here before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge existed. The guide’s presentation is supported by radios, and handouts and water are provided at the start. Museum access depends on its operating hours.

Meet at Kellam Field and call 24 hours ahead to confirm that at least 4 walkers have signed up. Take this Chesapeake Beach guided walking tour for a thoughtful look at the town’s railway past, marshland, and community history.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 1 review. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Washington DC
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1. Top 46% in Washington DC means it ranks in the top 46% of tours in Washington DC by this score.
