Explore Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on a private guided tour with moderate walks and insights into Kīlauea’s geology and culture.

About this tour

Explore the volcanic landscapes of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on a private, education-focused tour led by a professional guide. Rather than spending the day on long drives around the island, use your own vehicle to reach the park and focus your time on the volcano.

Take several moderate walks and learn about Kīlauea’s geology, native plants and wildlife, and the Hawaiian culture connected to the region. Your guide can discuss a preferred itinerary with you after booking, and you can arrange a departure time directly with the local operator. The tour is designed for a range of fitness levels, and children can ride in a stroller. Summit eruption viewing is possible only when current conditions allow.

Meet at Volcano House inside the park, then set out to explore. The park entrance fee is USD $30 per vehicle and is not included, and transportation to the park, food, and gratuities are also excluded. Book this Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Eco Tour for a closer look at the landscape, science, and culture of Hawaiʻi’s active volcanoes.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.98 from 333 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Big Island of Hawaii
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 9.4. Top 1% in Big Island of Hawaii means it ranks in the top 1% of tours in Big Island of Hawaii by this score.
