Explore Middleton Place and Drayton Hall on a Charleston plantation tour, with gardens, historic architecture, and an English-speaking guide.
About this tour
See two distinct sides of Charleston’s history on a 4-hour Charleston plantation tour along the Ashley River. Middleton Place pairs sweeping landscaped gardens with living history demonstrations and preserved grounds that reflect the family’s colonial-era lifestyle and agricultural legacy. Nearby Drayton Hall offers a striking contrast: an 18th-century estate celebrated for its Palladian design and preservation without modern alterations.
Together, these sites reveal more than architectural beauty and garden design. Their stories also include the lives of the enslaved people whose labor made these estates possible, offering a broader perspective on the Lowcountry’s past. Travel between the plantations in an air-conditioned vehicle with a live English-speaking guide. Admission to the plantations is not included, so plan to purchase entry separately.
Discover the contrasting landscapes and histories that make this Charleston plantation tour a memorable way to explore the region. Book your place and experience both estates in one outing.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 4 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Charleston
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.3.
