Explore three iconic New York speakeasies with a local guide, uncovering Prohibition and immigration history along the way.

About this tour

Step away from Midtown’s busy streets and discover the hidden rooms and storied bars of New York on a 3-hour speakeasy adventure. A local, licensed guide leads the way, pairing the atmosphere of three iconic NYC speakeasies and bars with tales of immigration and the Prohibition Era.

Explore the venues with free admission, express entry, and preferred customer treatment, while hearing the history behind the city’s underground drinking culture. Drinks are available to purchase, so you can choose whether to sip as you take in the mixology and ambience. New York speakeasy tour guests must be at least 21 and bring a government-issued photo ID or passport. Dress upscale casual; sportswear and ripped clothing are not permitted.

Meet on 8th Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets, outside the business entrance to One Worldwide Plaza. Leave the plaza behind the building for another time, and follow the guide into a spirited slice of New York history.

This tour scores 4.84 on Viator and 5.00 on GetYourGuide. Ratings on these sites cluster near the top of the 5-star scale, so we compare each one with all other ratings on the same site before combining them.

How the score works and rating distribution in New York City
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.6. Top 25% in New York City means it ranks in the top 25% of tours in New York City by this score.
