Explore West Village history, Prohibition-era hideouts, and three hidden bars on this guided 120-minute New York walking tour.
About this tour
Follow the West Village’s tangled streets into New York City’s Prohibition-era past. This 120-minute NYC West Village Speakeasy and Gangsters Tour reveals how “Little Bohemia” became a refuge for rebels, outlaws, and underground nightlife.
Along the way, see the Hess Triangle, Jimmy Kelly’s, the Friends exterior, and the Stonewall Inn, and hear neighborhood tales that include the ghost stories of the “Thinnest House.” The route also visits three hidden bars, including the Art Deco Zinc Bar, mob-linked The 86, formerly Chumley’s, and The Garret, tucked above a burger joint. Your guide connects these atmospheric stops with stories of the people and places that shaped the neighborhood.
Discover a side of New York history hidden behind unmarked doors on this NYC West Village Speakeasy and Gangsters Tour. Meet your guide outside the designated bar, then set out to explore the village’s storied streets and secret drinking spots.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 14 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in New York City
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.8. Top 19% in New York City means it ranks in the top 19% of tours in New York City by this score.
