Watch Badlands formations glow at sunset, then explore the park’s dark skies with a local guide, binoculars, and telescopes.

About this tour

See Badlands National Park transform from sunlit wilderness to a dark-sky wonderland on a private sunset and stargazing tour. In the afternoon, watch the park’s striking formations catch the golden light and keep an eye out for wildlife as evening approaches.

After sunset, experience the park after dark, when the skies can reveal far more than constellations, the moon, satellites, and airplanes. With binoculars and telescopes, look for planets, the Milky Way, star clusters, nebulae, the International Space Station, and shooting stars; on rare occasions, the aurora borealis may appear. Your local expert guide leads the outing, with Rapid City hotel pickup and drop-off, bottled water, snacks, and park entrance fees included. The private format keeps the experience exclusive to your group.

From glowing rock formations to a sky full of stars, this Badlands National Park sunset and stargazing tour brings two memorable sides of the park together. Book your private outing and see what emerges after dark.

This tour scores 4.97 on Viator and 4.93 on GetYourGuide. Ratings on these sites cluster near the top of the 5-star scale, so we compare each one with all other ratings on the same site before combining them.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rapid City
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 8.3. Top 18% in Rapid City means it ranks in the top 18% of tours in Rapid City by this score.
